BBC's Football World Cup experience

BBC Sport World Cup

BBC Sport is the most popular sport site in the UK with unrivalled reach, impact and level of trust. It provides sports fan worldwide with sports news, data, short form video content and live coverage. The Football World Cup is the most watched sporting event in the world.

The challenge

Being a public service broadcaster, how does the BBC reflect the nations opinion and include them in our coverage?

With a unique selling point of having live broadcast rights for the Football World Cup, we were also tasked with linking up our digital and TV offering.

I led the design of a new participation feature Player Rater, where users take part by scoring football players performance out of 10.

Impact

11.9 Million player ratings.

Allowing the BBC to reflect audience opinion in digital and broadcast.

Created debate and discussions across media landscape.
